On our small Vermont farm, six male alpacas roam the meadows, roll in the dirt and stand still under falling snow. They feed on fresh grass and hay that grows with no chemicals or artificial fertilizers. Our boys, like all alpacas, have unique digestive systems: they destroy all seeds. What comes out is manure that is organic, weed-free, more gentle than other manures, with an ideal balance of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium for growing plants.
You can safely apply large amounts of alpaca manure without damaging your plants. It also contains other nutrients, such as calcium, magnesium, and sulfur that supplement a plant's feeding needs.
For flowers or plants in a container pot, add the manure directly by sprinkling on top. For outside planting, mix the manure with some soil in the hole you have dug, plant your flower/shrub/tree and then thoroughly water. For existing plants, make a ring of Alpaca manure around the base of the flower/shrub/tree. The rain/watering will slowly dissolve the manure and will continue to fertilize over the next several months.
